My name is Maria Plessia. I am an MS student at Carnegie Mellon University, and a member of AiPEX Lab and BioSiMM Lab. I was born and raised in Greece, and have lived in Singapore and the US. My research interests lie within the intersection of Deep Learning and improved engineering solutions, with emphasis in making state of the art technology accessible. My current research project focuses on using quantitative metrics to standardize the transferability and scalability of Graph Neural Networks. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Rochester. As an undergrad, I had the opportunity to complete research projects in the Complex Flow Group and the Material Models Group (TU Dresden), supported by the Summer Research Grant and the DAAD RISE Fellowship. Besides my STEM-based education, I have grown up practicing multiple forms of art. I was trained in classical piano for 10 years, and also studied music theory. I have been painting and sketching since I was little, and have recently taken up photography. I also enjoy cooking.
